About the Book:
Seven years ago, Moriyah was taken captive in Jericho and branded with the mark of the Canaanite gods. Now the Israelites are experiencing peace in their new land, but Moriyah has yet to find her own peace. Because of the shameful mark on her face, she hides behind her veil at all times and the disdain of the townspeople keeps her from socializing. And marriage prospects were out of the question . . . until now.
Her father has found someone to marry her, and she hopes to use her love of cooking to impress the man and his motherless sons. But when things go horribly wrong, Moriyah is forced to flee. Seeking safety at one of the newly-established Levitical cities of refuge, she is wildly unprepared for the dangers she will face, and the enemies--and unexpected allies--she will encounter on her way.
Cossette has very quickly become one of my favorite authors of Biblical fiction! Can I just first say that this cover is absolutely gorgeous! Moriyah's story captivated me from the beginning, and I ached for her plight. She has the purest, most beautiful heart but lives in utter isolation with the exception of family because of her terrifying capture as told in Wings of the Wind. Her loneliness and desperation escalate when she thinks she has unintentionally met the man her father intends for her to marry, sparks fly between them, and then her dreams are dashed. After a reckless mistake causes her to flee her family, Cossette keeps the reader turning pages as danger chases her and her escorts throughout their journey many times just barely escaping with their lives. Of course, my favorite part was the romance between Moriyah and Darek. From the first time they met, the attraction between these two is strong. Romantic tension is prevalent throughout their interactions on their way to the city of refuge, especially as Darek struggles to reconcile his growing feelings for Moriyah with his sense of justice. The tenderness, mercy, and sacrifice laced throughout coupled with memorable characters has made A Light on the Hill a novel I will surely read again and again!
