About the Book:
Sex. In a world overwhelmingly obsessed with it, why is the church so silent about it? While our secular culture twists, perverts, cheapens, and idolizes sex, there are gaping holes in the church's guidance of young people. The result is generations of sexually illiterate people drowning in the repercussions of overwhelming sin struggles.
Enough is enough, says Mo Isom. With raw vulnerability and a bold spirit, she shares her own sexual testimony, opening up the conversation about misguided rule-following, virginity, temptation, porn, promiscuity, false sex-pectations, sex in marriage, and more and calling readers back to God's original design for sex--a way to worship and glorify him. This book is for the young person tangled up in an addiction to pornography, for the girlfriend feeling pressured to go further, for the "good girl" who followed the rules and saved herself for marriage and then was confused and disappointed, for the married couple who use sex as a bargaining tool, for every person who casually watches sex play out in TV and movies and wonders why they're dissatisfied with the real thing, and for every confused or hurting person in-between.
Sex was God's idea. It's time we invited him back into the bedroom.
This was a very powerful book! The author paints a stark and dismal picture of our sex-craved, overstimulated society and calls the reader to redirect our own way of thinking about sexuality as a gift from God when handled with care within the boundaries of God's perfect design. Isom strips off all pretense and boldly challenges readers to grasp that God did not call us to virginity, He called us to purity. Her common sense, Biblically-based reasoning drew forth conviction in my own life from past actions that I now view (shamefully so) in a very different light. Laced with grace, this is a must read for parents, young adults on the cusp of discovering their own sexuality, and even older adults who struggle with past sexual sins or who simply desire to have a healthy dose of God's beautiful reality in creating sex. Empowering!

About the Book:
Christian parenting is hard work--and it's getting harder. Parents have a deep desire to pass on their faith, but fear that today's increasingly skeptical and hostile world will eventually lead their kids to reject the truth of Christianity. That leaves many parents feeling overwhelmed--uncertain of what they can do to help their children, given the difficulty and extent of the faith challenges they will face.
This practical and timely resource gives parents the confidence of knowing what to discuss with their children and how to discuss it in order to facilitate impactful conversations that will form the basis of a lifelong faith. In a friendly, parent-to-parent voice, Natasha Crain identifies 30 specific conversations about God that parents must have with their children, organizing them under the categories of
- the existence of God
- science and God
- the nature of God
- believing in God
- the difference God makes
Chapters are sequenced in a curriculum-oriented way to provide a cumulative learning experience, making this book a flexible resource for use in multiple settings: homes, church classes, youth groups, small groups, private Christian schools, and homeschools. Every chapter has a step-by-step conversation guide with discussion questions and tips, and content is readily adaptable for use with kids of any age (elementary through high school).
Talking with Your Kids about God: 30 Conversations Every Christian Parent Must Have is a go to resource for every Christian parent’s bookshelf. Crain’s easy to understand narratives offer simple explanations to complex problems. Parents are guided to encourage their children’s critical thinking skills to draw their own conclusions. In a culture that demands absolute evidence that God exists but yet expects complete acceptance of its own fallible theories (such as evolution) Crain walks the reader through taking the evidence that we can see and comparing it to each possible solution to derive at the most probable explanation- that a loving God is behind every aspect of life as we know it. Suggested conversation starters and follow-up questions to help take the discussion deeper will assist parents in equipping their children to intelligently discuss the existence of God with any skeptic. Likewise, parents are equally challenged as Crain presents genuine questions posed on her blog about the topic of each chapter challenging parents to consider how they would respond if the same question were posed to them. Exceptional tool for families!

Eats With Sinners challenges Christians to view sinners as Jesus does. Chambers clearly demonstrates how using judgement tactics to convey the gospel is not only ineffective, but goes against the entire message of Jesus’ teachings. Instead, Eats With Sinners challenges believers to approach unbelievers with humility, love, and sacrifice using Jesus’ interactions found in scripture as a model for putting faith into action. Chambers’ writing style is easy to read and incorporates real life stories to bring home the principles discussed in each chapter. Thought-provoking discussion questions are also included at the end of each chapter that can easily be used in a small group session or for personal reflection.

Despite the playground memories vowing to our besties that we would be “best friends forever and ever”, adult friendships can be hard! Hoover unpacks friendship from a Biblical perspective in Messy Beautiful Friendship unfolding the layers of what makes a “good” friendship along with the beauty and strength that trials add to them. This book is not what you might expect- it is not frilly or weepy, but rather causes the reader to ask themselves the hard questions about what friendship myths they have naively believed and what significant steps the reader has taken to bridge the gift of friendship to other women.
This book was very timely for me personally as I not only had a “crisis” in a friendship within the last year, but have also in the same time period been introduced to some amazing women that I admire and desire to build deep, lasting friendships with. Hoover’s book helped me drop the friendship pity party and embrace a new way of viewing friendships. Well worth the read!

Lecrae has been one of mine and my husband's favorite artists for years. His no holds barred lyrics meet the hurt and broken where they are and call out believers to reach out and share Jesus with a culture that doesn't esteem the Savior who loves them relentlessly. Unashamed is Lecrae's telling of his life story from childhood to today taking the reader through his own struggles in his journey to find Jesus to becoming a world-renowned Grammy award-winning hip-hop powerhouse. Just like his lyrics, in Unashamed Lecrae is transparent sharing with the reader startling details about his abuse and feelings of being abandoned by his father as a child, openly discussing his past mistakes not only before becoming a Christian but also his struggles since becoming a Christ follower, and sharing how God has shaped his music to be a source of light in a dark culture. This novel was sobering- first from reading about the urban culture that is so vastly different from my own upbringing, and second from the realization that I have been on autopilot and could be doing so much more to reach others for Christ in my community by understanding my culture. I already respected Lecrae's music. After reading Unashamed I respect him even more and have been challenged in my faith on a deeper level. I highly recommend getting the audiobook version of this book which is read by Lecrae himself. I'll be reading (or actually listening) to this one again to glean as much as I can from the nuggets of wisdom laced throughout Lecrae's personal story.
