Dark Deception takes readers on an exciting quest for a psychopathic killer with many dark twists, intriguing characters, and danger that will make you gasp! Kate O’Brien has been living in fear in the witness protection program in small town Shelter Cove, AR. However, she won’t feel truly safe unless the man known as the “Blue-Eyed Killer” remains in prison. Four years ago, her twin sister was brutally murdered and Kate, herself, brutally attacked by the man. Now, he’s being released and is after Kate to finish the job. U.S. Deputy Marshal Tony DeLuca is the only person Kate trusts to keep her safe. As a precaution, Tony agrees to trek to Shelter Cove as an extra layer of protection for Kate, but when she is kidnapped he realizes that he may be too late.
This was a very fast-paced plot with a note of danger starting very early on! Mehl unravels the twisted thinking of a killer and unfolds the true identity of the Blue-Eyed Killer while keeping the reader guessing “who can you trust”. Although the multiple characters- some with multiple aliases- became a little confusing to keep up with, in the end Mehl ties it all together in an exciting finale.
