After crashing his best friend’s wedding, wrecking the father of the groom’s car, and fleeing town to not only avoid being arrested but also his broken heart, Beckett Walker is returning to Maple Valley for his cousin’s wedding. Although he expected to be arrested for the havoc he wreaked in town years ago, he wasn’t expecting to see Kit, his best friend from childhood and the woman who still holds his heart. Kit has returned home not only to attend her friend’s wedding, but also to try and salvage her beloved late grandmother’s apple orchard, a place that holds special memories for Kit. When Kit and Beckett meet for the first time in six years, words of healing that should have been spoken years ago are shared and their bond is reestablished, but this time there is more than feelings of friendship on both sides. While Kit seems to have found her place in life at the family orchard, Beckett must settle his warring desires to leave Kit behind to pursue his dream career of becoming a JAG lawyer or seeking a completely new path with her in Maple Valley.
I love stories of “best friends turned romance”, but when you throw in a crashed wedding, declarations of love, and rejection of said love- even better! Beckett and Kit’s love story is so sweet, but my favorite part of their story is when Kit supports Beckett’s need to have some time alone taking a sabbatical to hash out what he wants out of life. It takes great strength- and an even greater love- to offer that kind of encouragement knowing full well that Beckett’s decision may be to put her in second place in his life. Needless to say, I was VERY happy with Beckett’s ultimate decision!
