After a stint away from Yancey, Alaska- and Gage McKenna- Darcy St. James is given a chance to return when a co-journalist friend asks for her help in an undercover investigation on an Alaskan cruise ship. Darcy eagerly seizes the opportunity and lands a job as a travel reporter. However, when she reports for duty, Darcy learns that her friend has gone mysteriously missing and she can't get a straight answer from the cruise employees. As a result, Darcy shifts her focus to finding out what happened to her friend.
Meanwhile, unaware that Darcy will be working on the same ship, Gage lands a job as an on-shore adventure trip guide. When Darcy and Gage's paths finally cross, sparks once again fly. Gage is drawn into Darcy's search for clues to what happened to her friend as both a partner in the investigation and by his desire to keep Darcy safe. As their feelings for each other grow deeper, they discover evidence that Darcy's friend may be involved with an undercover international sex trafficking ring leaving Darcy and Gage in a race against time to find her friend before she is lost in the system for good.
Stranded incorporates an intricate web of clues laced with danger around every corner that keeps the reader engaged and wondering who exactly on the ship can be trusted. Darcy's feistiness shines through this adventure along with Gage's intriguing calm and aloof nature. My heart melted when Gage admitted he'd fallen for Darcy first. His attention toward her, jealousy, and protectiveness of her was enchanting for this reader! Pettrey does an excellent job bringing to the forefront the intolerable crime of sex trafficking weaving the potential threat of the crime into the story in such a plausible way that this reader is actually nervous about going on an Alaskan cruise for mine and my husband's 25th wedding anniversary! As a side note, Jake's past is revealed in Stranded providing a hint of what may come in future books! Can't wait to see the next plot play out!
