Taming Rafe, second in Warren's Noble Legacy series, follows the tale of rebel-rouser bad boy, Rafe Noble. After suffering a near career-ending bull ride that not only injured Rafe- both physically and mentally- but also resulted in the death of his best friend in the ring, Rafe finds himself in an embarrassing accident landing him smack dab in the middle of the Breckenridge Hotel lobby during a charity fundraiser hosted by Katherine Breckenridge herself. Facing multiple lawsuits, a failing career, and lost sponsorships, Rafe hunkers down at home to try and recover from his injuries. Katherine, however, shows up at the Noble ranch seeking restitution from Rafe for ruining her charity fundraiser. Hoping to sway him into agreeing to host a celebrity dude ranch experience fundraiser, Katherine proceeds on the premise of wanting to "learn" about ranching from Rafe. As Rafe begins showing her the ropes of ranch life, he begins to have feelings for her but has his pride hurt when she doesn't immediately return his affection. As Katherine gets to know the man beneath the "tough cowboy" facade, however, she begins losing her heart to him, and her intentions begin to shift wanting to help Rafe see the man he was created by God to be instead of the hopeless screw-up he sees as himself. Their fledgling romance is thrown off-course, unfortunately, when Katherine's money hungry, lawyer boyfriend shows up to drag her back to New York and to her senses. With Katherine's departure and her and Rafe's budding romance abruptly halted, both of them will have to come face to face with their true feelings for one another, learn to trust God's plans for their careers, and overcome impending danger that threatens both of their lives if they hope to have a future together.
Taming Rafe once again showcases all the reasons why I LOVE Warren's writing! Reader's will be smitten with Warren's characterization of Rafe as a very vulnerable and broken man hidden beneath layers of machismo and cowboy charm. I love how he fell for Katherine first. Aw! The "take it back" seen was epic! Couldn't help screaming at Katherine, "What are you DOING??!!! TAKE IT BACK!!!". Ultimately, Warren's telling of Rafe and Katherine's story beautifully renders a tale of love, devotion, sacrifice, and faith.
