Trained by Harry Houdini himself, Wren Lockhart has created a spectacular career as a vaudeville illusionist. When an innocent man dies during an unconventional show hosted by a mystical vaudeville performer, she is recruited by the FBI to help solve the crime. Although Wren attempts to cloak her heart by maintaining her peculiar on-stage persona and creating barriers to discussions about her painful past, she finds herself softening to FBI Agent Elliott Matthews. As Wren and Elliott piece together the evidence, they each overcome their own dark pasts, face danger as they are pursued by an unknown enemy, and find hope in the possibilities of new love.
Filled with romance, danger, and a nail-biting ending, The Illusionist’s Apprentice packs quite a punch serving equal parts suspense novel and romance! Readers are allowed a peek into the secret world of early vaudeville and enjoy a suspense-filled murder mystery at its best! Cambron does a superb job at drawing the reader into Wren’s exotic and lonely persona, and Elliott is a true hero in every sense of the word. I enjoyed watching a tender romance blossom as subtle changes occurred in Wren and Elliott’s relationship. One of the most beautiful and breathtaking love stories I’ve had the pleasure of reading for quite a while!
